Acupuncture

Acupuncture originated in China thousands of years ago and has survived for so long as a system of medicine because it has proved to be effective, safe and free from side effects.

Acupuncture is based on treating the underlying root cause of any condition rather than just alleviating symptoms.

An initial visit involves a detailed consultation that takes into account the existing condition, previous medical history and lifestyle. The treatment is then tailored to the individual and involves the insertion of very fine, sterile needles into specific points on the body to affect the flow of the body’s vital energy (qi).

Acupuncture is recognised as a safe, effective therapy by the World Health Organisation (WHO). A number of controlled clinical trials has shown how the body responds to acupuncture and its benefits for a wide range of common conditions, such as headaches, osteoarthritis of the knee, lower back pain and sciatica, among others.

Acupuncture can also be effective when the body feels out of balance and some people choose to have regular treatments simply because they find it so beneficial and relaxing.
